If only Baiser de Russie were a bit stronger, it might actually be the nicest fragrance in my collection. The absinthe, pine needles and sophisticated tart fruitiness of the cranberry, blended on a bed of smooth creamy caramel never gets cloying and leaves you smelling utterly unique, mesmerising and intoxicating.
I rather like how light it is, because the non-cloying, subtle, fresh-aromatic-sweet nature of this fragrance adds to its uniqueness, but it’s a bit too overpriced to overspray as generously as it needs to be. I was lucky enough to get it at a good price back in 2020, but this gem is not easy to come by and therefore currently very expensive. Bring it back!

La Belle Le Parfum. Got myself this second hand mini cos I still hadn’t smelled it after all the hype. Not disappointed. Smells more expensive than it is: warm, sultry, vanillic-tonka sweetness with sophistication and a hint of cherry. A bit weak, but i do want to try it with a sprayer first though, since this way of application is probably not doing it justice. Tried out samples of some new designer releases last week, and a unisex cherry-incense delight that I was dying to try. Disliked pretty much all the samples, but LOVED Major Me. Wore it almost every day this last week, and it has not disappointed. An underrated gem.

Trying out some new Zara and Zara X Jo Malone ‘V

Trying out some new Zara and Zara X Jo Malone ‘Vibrant Cities’ fragrances.
- Cherry Smoothie is a nice surprise and a decent cheapie dupe for Lost Cherry. Super affordable, and probably the best Zara fragrance I’ve smelled. And at about 4% of the price of Lost Cherry, this might be worth the try. I liked it more at first sniff, but upon closer comparison it does smell quite cheap and synthetic. Still better than other Zara messes though.
- Elegantly Tokyo is a nice tuberose surprise that smells more expensive than it is, in the same vein as Rouge Malachite.
- Fashionably London reminded me of a cheap Xerjoff at first, or of a heavier Delina heavier on the rose. Not too bad for the price.
- Vetiver Pamplemousse: a nice, cheapie grapefruit alternative for Pomelo Paradis.
- Go Fruity is a sweeter, fruitier, even more synthetic Burberry Her, quite far removed from BR540, but one can find some similarities if one tries. My least favourite of the bunch.
- Ebony Wood smelled quite sharp and a bit like mouldy, wet moss on a piece of wood in the opening, but the dry down is nicer. Amber, woods, quite masculine. Not bad, but I had higher hopes after seeing it was often compared to Ambre Nuit (which I find a stretch).
All in all a good haul for under 50 bucks, especially since almost all my Zara fragrances have been a massive disappointment in the past and have remained untouched.
