Over-shampooing will dry out your hair and interfere with your hair’s natural oils.
Towel dry gently. Air drying your hair will results in less frizz than blow drying (plus no heat damage!). Just wrap a towel around it. Or even better, a micro fiber hair turban: “Aquis Microfiber Hair Turban“.
Look into Keratine treatments and Brasilian blowouts (more on this topic soon).
Don’t forget your regular trim. Your hair’s natural oils don’t tend to reach the tips, and the tips are exposed to more friction, causing them to dry out, break and become extra fluffy.
Rinse your hair with cool water for a better cuticle sealing, less frizz and added shine.
Hair straightening tips:
Blow dry gently with ionic dryers that compress the cuticle
Ceramic straighteners will significantly reduce breakage and hair damage: I love my CHI straightener for example.
Heat protecting serums (more later)
Products I’ve tested to help combat frizz: shampoo, deep conditioners and masks, serums and oils
Bumble & Bumble leave in moisturiser (great products, but overpriced)
Biosilk serum. Love the way it makes my curls look and smell, but doubtful about whether the ingredients do the hair any real good.
Pureology Hydrating line (good price-quality alternative to Shu Uemura)
Aveda: natural, but expensive and one of the most inefficient product lines I’ve ever used for dry hair.
John Frieda is overhyped, smells horrible and never did much for me.
Avoid: Pantène and other silicone-filled supermarket brands: your hair will hate you in the long run: next to silicone based products, dry shampoos are often also recommended for frizz. I’m convinced however, that both these quick fixes will do more damage in the long run. Avoid drying ingredients like alcohol.
Dry Shampoo Taboo: which are ok then? Dry Clean Shampoo by Biosilk, the Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo or the Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with oat milk. Even though I usually like the brand, the Bumble & Bumble dry shampoo is expensive and terrible, Detox Dry Shampoo
Virgin Coconut Oil pre-wash treatment: My holy grail for dry hair, I put generous amounts of virgin coconut oil on my dry hair and let it soak for several hours before washing.
Oil treatments: Home made oil concoction (e.g. coconut oil as a hydrating serum, mixed with castor oil (for growth) and avocado oil, or an avocado mask as an intense conditioner and other Home-made goodness) or store bought oils & hot-oils (more later)
