I fear hairdressers like most people fear dentists, and have therefore always dreaded having my hair cut. I’d experienced several horrible flops caused by incompetent hairdressers, and consequently I tried out all the so-called good ones in and around Ghent.
After searching high and low, I discovered Hairstylist Michael in Asper, former world champion and still the best hair guru I’ve ever encountered. Earlier this year, however, my dear Michael moved his salon in Asper to Oudenaarde. Given my recent lack of time, I couldn’t get myself around to make the rather long trip over there recently, so I decided to try out the hyped Clientology around the corner.
Of course I would never have dared to entrust my beloved locks to strangers if I hadn’t already heard many wonderful things about them from trustworthy sources, but I never expected to fall in love with the place, given my overly demanding track record.
Clientology, the name says it all, is all about the client. The interior is ultra modern, with an incredible zen vibe. After being seated I was treated to the longest, most divine head massage I’ve ever experienced. And this whilst my feet were up and my back and bum were pampered in a comfy massage chair, giving me the much-needed boost of energy and resourcing I needed.
Afterwards, clients are offered champagne, soft drinks or freshly made soup. And my goodness, could that soup have been any more delicious?
Next to all this indulgence, they actually listen to their customers. My skilled hairdresser not only did exactly what I asked for, but she gave me useful advice and extensively answered my questions. I now get why so many Belgian celebs are clients here: Clientology = superb quality, and won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Update September 2019:
My amazing hairdresser Jochen Vanhoudt, former co-owner of Clientology and De Client started his very own salon in Antwerp. https://jochenvanhoudt.be/
I recently had a light keratine treatment done (products by Jean Paul Myne) in his new(ish) salon. Lo and behold!
He also published a lovely book:
